A Letter to Negativity

Dear Drama (aka the events that occurred today),

You cease to exist. Mangled within the depths of my mind are the pulsating lips of bullies, spit flying when they speak, and pointing at the broken entity that used to be me. Madea said it best, "Honey, people are going to talk about you your whole life. It's not what they call you, its what you answer to."

At every graduation, my father would say to me, "Things will be different..." He stated this after elementary, junior high school, and high school. Yet, here I am at the end of college, nearing another end, and things are still the same. I am not one for drama, anymore at least. Yet it still tiptoes around my twitter, text messages, and ear lobes when the alleged call. Here is my vow to avoid it at all costs this summer. I am content with my career, my family & friends, and the newest additions to my life.

Shaun Jr. (my newborn god son), cradling my pointer finger in his palm, is the only attention I need from a man to make me feel special. Grandma's prayers, at the crack of dawn on her knees, her wrinkled smooth back rippling over her curved shoulders, putting whispers of good fortune between her palms, is all I need to feel secure. My mother's yelling at the crack of dawn for everyone to rise, is all I need to stay focused. Where does drama fit into this equation?
Nowhere. I refuse to waste summer metaphors and similies on pointless notions.

"Honey, people are going to talk about you your whole life. It's not what they call you, its what you answer to."

So, call me grateful; I'll be sure to answer.
